Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) at HopePlus IVF
Our Best IVF Service
At HopePlus IVF, we are committed to offering cutting-edge fertility treatments to help couples achieve their dream of parenthood. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is one of the most advanced assisted reproductive techniques, specifically designed to overcome male infertility issues and improve fertilization success rates.
What is ICSI?
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a specialized form of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) that involves injecting a single healthy sperm directly into an egg to facilitate fertilization. This technique is highly effective for men with severe male factor infertility or for couples who have had previous failed IVF attempts.
Who Can Benefit from ICSI?
ICSI is recommended for couples facing:
- Severe Male Factor Infertility: Low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or abnormal sperm shape (morphology).
- Azoospermia (No Sperm in Semen): When sperm must be retrieved directly from the testicles or epididymis via surgical procedures (PESA/TESA).
- Previous Failed IVF Attempts: When conventional IVF has not resulted in fertilization.
- Poor Egg-Sperm Interaction: When sperm cannot penetrate the egg naturally.
- Use of Frozen Sperm: If the sperm sample has been frozen due to medical reasons (e.g., cancer treatment).
The ICSI Process at HopePlus IVF
1. Ovarian Stimulation and Egg Retrieval
The female partner undergoes controlled ovarian stimulation with fertility medications to produce multiple mature eggs. Once the eggs are ready, they are retrieved using a minor surgical procedure under ultrasound guidance.
2. Sperm Collection and Preparation
A semen sample is collected from the male partner or a sperm donor. If sperm is not present in the ejaculate, it can be retrieved surgically through PESA (Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration) or TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration). The healthiest sperm are selected for injection.
3. Sperm Injection into the Egg
Using a high-powered microscope and a specialized microneedle, a single, high-quality sperm is injected directly into the egg to facilitate fertilization. This ensures that sperm-related fertilization barriers are bypassed.
4. Embryo Development and Monitoring
The fertilized eggs (embryos) are carefully monitored in the laboratory for several days. Our embryologists assess their growth and development to select the best-quality embryos for transfer.
5. Embryo Transfer
The best embryos are transferred into the woman’s uterus using a thin catheter. This painless procedure increases the chances of implantation and pregnancy. Remaining healthy embryos can be frozen for future use.
6. Pregnancy Test and Follow-Up
A blood test is conducted after two weeks to confirm pregnancy. Our team provides ongoing support and guidance throughout the journey.
Success Rates of ICSI
ICSI has significantly improved fertilization rates, with an average success rate of 60%–80% per cycle depending on various factors such as egg quality, sperm quality, and the woman’s age. At HopePlus IVF, we use the latest technology and expertise to maximize success rates and increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy.
